Four boys aged 15 to 17 were arrested after two mopeds were wheeled out of Fremlin Walk car park. Mopeds and an e-bike were recovered; police want witnesses.
Four teenage boys have been arrested after two mopeds were reportedly wheeled out of Fremlin Walk car park in the early hours of Wednesday 23 September.
Officers also recovered the mopeds and a suspected stolen e-bike. All four have been bailed while enquiries continue. Kent Police set out the details in a statement on its website.
What the police say happened
- The force was called at 12.55am on Wednesday 23 September to a report of a group of teenagers wheeling two mopeds away from Fremlin Walk car park.
- The group is alleged to have left towards the A229 Fairmeadow.
- After a short chase on foot, officers arrested three boys on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle: a 17-year-old from Sheerness and two 16-year-olds, one from Rochester and one from Maidstone.
- A 15-year-old boy from Rochester was arrested later in connection with the incident.
- Further enquiries led officers to the mopeds and to a suspected stolen e-bike.
The suspects have been bailed pending further enquiries. Nobody has been charged, and an arrest is not a finding of guilt.
The appeal

The force has not said who owns the recovered e-bike. If an e-bike has been stolen from you in or around the town centre, it is worth calling the same number with your own crime reference.
How common is vehicle crime around the car park?
We checked the published street-level figures on police.uk for the area within a mile of the Fremlin Walk car park. That covers most of the town centre, the riverside and the streets around the station.
Police recorded 154 vehicle crimes there in the twelve months from August 2025 to July 2026. The category covers thefts of vehicles, including motorbikes and mopeds, and thefts from them. It does not separate mopeds out.
- The busiest months were December 2025, with 23, and February 2026, with 22.
- The quietest were the latest two: 7 in June and 6 in July 2026.
- Offences are mapped to the nearest street or landmark, so “Parking Area” appears as a location in several months, including four times in both August 2025 and February 2026.
The monthly counts come from the police.uk open data (July 2026 query). July is the latest month published. Figures for September, when these arrests happened, will not appear until later in the autumn.
What it means for you
- If you saw anything around Fremlin Walk or Fairmeadow shortly before 1am on 23 September, call 01622 604100 and quote 46/157670/26.
- If you ride a moped or motorbike into town, the recorded figures have fallen in recent months, but the winter months were the worst last year. It is worth locking the bike to something fixed, not just steering-locking it.
- If you are choosing where to park, Fremlin Walk is a privately run car park. Our guide to parking in Maidstone lists the council’s own car parks and what they cost.
